Fire Salamander Info The Fire Salamander is a small amphibian that inhabits the forests of Europe. They live under leaf-litter, and are very hard to notice if not disturbed. They defend themselves using a neurotoxin that is secreted from their skin, and their bright coloring and patterning, which inspired their names, also helps to deter predators.
Outside of nature, Fire Salamanders are sometimes kept as pets in captivity. They can be fed mealworms or crickets, and can live up to fifty years in captivity! They get their names form their brightly patterned skin, which helps alert predators to their toxicity, which is further explained in the "Special Adaptations" page. They are very interesting creatures, and can hardly be totally covered in the five pages here. However, if you want to know everything an average person could ever need or want to know in terms that the average person can understand, this is the site for you! |
